June 18, 2024This week’s guest blog is dedicated to a wonderful new grassroots organization that I’ve become involved with as a parent ambassador and events assistant. If you have an organization y0u’d like to discuss, send it my way. This was submitted by one of the founders of TEC:
Trans Equity Coalition (TEC) is a grassroots nonprofit which is facilitated exclusively by Trans and Nonbinary people, serving the Trans and Nonbinary community of NJ. TEC’s mission is to improve the overall quality of life of Transgender and Nonbinary people in NJ through ensuring access to resources and strengthening community connectedness.
TEC has humble beginnings, having been founded by a group of Trans and Nonbinary friends and acquaintances as a series of video calls asking how they could improve the lives of those in their community. Since then, the organization has grown exponentially. Their first major ongoing project was a community survey in which Trans and Nonbinary people can vocalize the most urgent needs of the community so that TEC can begin to adequately allocate their resources to those causes. Using that data, they have begun providing resources such as support groups for both TGNC folks, and also for their families.
Additionally, they are currently working on rolling out initiatives for physical health such as workout and yoga platforms exclusively for Trans and Nonbinary individuals, tobacco cessation initiatives, and so much more.
TEC continues to learn and grow in new and innovative ways. Furthermore, they continue to be involved in the community around them, with many speaking and education engagements as well as an extensive Pride event presence across the state.
