July is salty.
July 13, 2021Hi! Hope everyone is enjoying summer and its fresh fruit and colossal ocean.
These are books I’ve read in May and June. I hope there is something for you on the list. If you type in the title, you’ll find the author!
Truth Like Oil: a gorgeous story of a Haitian mom and her two boys: complex family dynamics
Tender Cuts: flash fiction that captures moments in sharp, delicate, and potent ways
We Dream of Space: an expertly-written middle grade about January/February 1986 (Challenger)
Unwinding Anxiety: a self-help told with direct, honest advice
Million Dollar Red: a grittty memoir that I LOVED
Before the Earth Devours Us: It’s not out yet, but soon: fantastic essay collection by Esteban Rodriguez
Feather in Third and in the Middle: by ME!!! Link: http://malarkeybooks.com/free-samples/2021/6/14/feather-in-third-by-elaina-battista-parsons
The Shape of Thunder: wonderful middle grade Friendship narrative that deals with gun safety and grief in the most poetic of ways without being poetry
What I have learned in therapy recently:
It’s okay to have boundaries; it’s not a sign of being cold or mean like I used to think. I used to confuse boundaries with icicle coldness. It’s not the same thing. Boundaries respect all parties.
I’ve also learned that it’s okay to say what you mean; try not to be an ass***e when you say it.
