Be Nice to Earth
January 25, 2019WRITING: A NON GMO (Great, Mysterious Operation)
February 21, 2019Before I officially created this blog, I used to imagine it as a platform to express my passion for music, the artists, and the all of the pink, chewy visual art that comes with it. Since six years old, I have fed this passion for pop. As I got older, I found rock. Then alternative rock. Then classicial. Then Billie Holiday. Then Bjork. My very first full cassette was Colour by Numbers by the Culture Club. At one point when I was about 11, I had about three-hundred 45s. Every amount of money I was given for birthdays or Christmas was spent on music. The same pattern continued when I started working at age 14. That spending had to slow down once I found out I had to buy my own car and pay my own insurance at age 17.
Since music videos are a thing of the past, I want to put this car in reverse and rediscover the diamonds that made music video magic. What makes an amazing music video? The only way to show the excellence is to show the actual video. The artist who performs the song should always be present in some way. There’s a story. There are characters. There’s iconic fashion or vintage cars. Maybe even a gorgeous natural setting. I am so excited just writing this post. So many amazing music videos to talk about. And those of you who’ve known me forever—I know what you’re thinking: “Oh God, she’s starting with a Madonna video.” You couldn’t be more wrong! I actually don’t love her videos. There may be a few, but she is not the queen of videos (with the exception of Frozen, Papa Don’t Preach, and Vogue).
I begin with a video that I remember being intrigued by as a kid. I had no idea what was really happening in the video, but I knew I loved the song and the vibe. It made me feel things. So, see for yourself. It’s an example of a solid music video and a solid song. I will not analyze this video to death. That’s no fun. Good art doesn’t need much explanation, in my opinion. It just…moves us! VIDEO
Stay Warm….
